Introducing Kayla Stone
Welcome to Conserving the Beauty of the Southern Alps. Hello, my name is Kayla Stone and I am currently studying Adventure Outdoor Programming at the University of Utah. I’m an avid participant in all things outdoors. Climbing, mountain biking and water sports are my main activities of choice throughout the year. I’m originally from Pennsylvania, but have been thoroughly enjoying my time in the beautiful state of Utah. I plan to graduate with a bachelor’s of science degree and hope to acquire a career as a backcountry guide, while volunteering on a search and rescue team. Safety and the outdoors go hand in hand and are my main areas of focus both in play and profession.
The great outdoors is something we all tend to take for granted at times, which is why I decided to write about ways to preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us. I've always had an interest in New Zealand and hope to make it there one day, to participate in the many adventure tourism opportunities New Zealand has to offer. Many people are attracted to the grandeur of the mountains there, and I hope this blog will be helpful in learning ways of respecting the land, as well as, the New Zealand culture. For those who choose to climb and/or trek across the many peaks, it's important we have common courtesy towards the people and natural lands when stepping foot in another country. I hope I can be of some help to anyone who also dreams of making a trip to such a beautiful country, so that we can leave it better than the way we found it.
